Can you believe it's already Homecoming? It just means Fall Break is close! Here are some things to know for this weekend.

Homecoming parade will start at 9am. Come check out all the great floats on Jayhawk Blvd.!

After the parade, be sure to come to the Hawk Zone tailgate. We'll be outside this week, on the terrace of the first floor of the Kansas Union. This will start at 9:30am and we'll have your spirit item of the game

The game is at 11:30am. Are you ready for a night game? I sure am. Be sure to be at the tailgate by 10:15 so we can head over for the game!

CONGRATULATIONS to Alex Minisini for being the Hawk Zone member of the game last week! He'll receive a pretty sweet gift from the bookstore to make his game day experience even more awesome.

BIG NEWS: Want to go to the K-State game? YEAH! Do you want to pay $75 for it? Heck no you don't. Hawk Zone members can purchase your K-State ticket for only $40!! That's a HUGE savings people! You can purchase tickets at the SUA office in the Kansas Union on the 4th floor. You can only buy one ticket, and you must show your own Hawk Zone member card. Don't have it? You can pick it up in the office as well. TICKETS WILL GO ON SALE THE 21st OF OCTOBER.

Have a great rest of Homecoming week!

Sustainability Leadership Awards

The KU Center for Sustainability is soliciting nominations for its third annual Sustainability Leadership Awards.  These awards recognize the achievements of students, faculty members, staff members, programs and projects making important contributions to sustainability by promoting the values of environmental, economic, and social  responsibility.  Nominees should exhibit outstanding leadership and creativity in addressing issues of sustainability on the KU campus and/or in the broader community through education, research, service and innovation.  Awards will be announced later this fall as we celebrate the achievements our campus community has made in moving toward a more sustainable future for KU.

To nominate an individual, program, or project, please submit a completed nomination form (electronic submissions only)  to sustainability@ku.edu by 5 PM on Wednesday, October 7.  Additional information and nomination forms are available at http://www.sustainability.ku.edu/awards.shtml.

Thank you for your assistance in recognizing leaders in sustainability at the University of Kansas.

Sincerely,

Jeff Severin

About Social Issues

Social Issues presents pertinent topics or issues in a variety of engaging formats. Programs produced by this committee are educational and entertaining, with the primary goal being to inform, educate and raise awareness (i.e. issues of a political, social, national, cultural, diverse or controversial nature). No matter the subject, Social Issues provides thought-provoking dialogue for current events and trends., for a theatre experience not to be missed.

Social Issues begins the semester with an Autism Awareness Panel on September 23rd. They're also bringing back their popular Hunger Banquet experience on November 16th. Stay current and stay invlved with Social Issues this Spring...there's always something to talk about!

About Live Music

Live Music brings a world of music to your doorstep every semester, with artists ranging from top-notch local acts to world-reknown top-selling musicians! You've probably seen them out on the plaza at the Union for Tunes at Noon in the late Spring and early Fall.

Live Music launches out of the gate this fall with the return of Night on the Hill on August 17th, featuring electro-pop sensations Passion Pit! Then, on Thursday, October 1st, Live Music will take you and your friends into Downtown Lawrence for a sweat-drenched dance party with Girl Talk! SUA's Games Committee offers students the chance to participate in activites of both skill and endurance, including sports tournaments, casino nights, and regular videogame series competitions. Games opens strong this semester, with the return of SUA's Carnival on August 29th! Also, ante up for their their popular Texas Hold 'Em Tournament on September 8th. Then, keep your eyes peeled for not one but TWO chances to win free gas and groceries at their ever-popular Grocery Bingo nights!

About Cultural Arts

Cultural Arts features a variety of regional, national and student art exhibits for display at the Kansas Union's Gallery and other locations, and also presents creative cultural and performing arts programs on campus. You might know them from their gallery opening receptions, Project Runway competitions, or their weekly Tea Times in the Kansas Union.
This semester, look for Project Runway star Korto Momolu to come to campus, along with excellent gallery displays and more! There's too much to mention in a sentence or two, so be sure to stay informed about what's going on with SUA's Cultural Arts Committee.
